The oldest human-created artifact that has ever mattered to me is a light bulb. I feel as if it is important, because it showed us how far our technology has come, and it is useful. Before it was made, people were not able to see in the dark. Although Thomas Edison always gets credit for creating this live-changing invention, six other men were important contributors, Davy, Swan, Brush, Latimer, Whitney, and Coolidge. (http://www.enchantedlearning.com/inventors/edison/lightbulb.shtml). These men experimented with electricity to finally come up with an object that lights up darkness. To me, the light bulb is the most important human-created artifact.
